A Collaborative Project between Camborne Youth Band and the Phoenix Stroke Appeal.

Become part of something special in Cornwall and improve the lives of many local people.

Camborne Youth Band has entered into a mutually beneficial agreement with the Phoenix Stroke Appeal to raise much needed funds for their respective charities.

The band are producing a CD / DVD and sharing the profits of its sales with the Phoenix Stroke Appeal who are striving to reach their target of raising £1/2 million to improve stroke services in the county to a “Gold Standard”.

The Camborne Youth Band, the most successful Youth Band in the country, has been National Champions on seven occasions. It offers young people the opportunity to work as a team to achieve their full musical potential. The environment in which they learn encourages self belief, discipline and responsibility, values which have life long benefits. Totally self-supporting, we wish to ensure the band's future development to continue to provide wonderful entertainment at venues throughout Cornwall. Ultimately we wish to move to purpose-made facilities as the current Tuckingmill Pavilions are scheduled for demolition.

Later this month we have arranged to record a DVD of Cornish themed music. The recording will be made by Doyen, one of the best companies in the Brass Band world. The music will demonstrate everything that is best about Cornwall.

The DVD will feature the beautiful and dramatic Cornish scenery, local cultural events, historic sites and famous places which will link in with the soundtrack. Filming has already taken place, strongly linking the band with a variety of locations around the county supporting charity events such as the RNLI concert at Newlyn, local tea treats e.g. Kehelland and cultural events e.g. the biennial Sea Salts & Sail Maritime Festival at Mousehole. It provides insight into the life of a Cornish Brass Band, the different ages of the players involved, the sense of family being part of a band can bring and how integral it is to the local community. The end product will be a celebration of Cornish Heritage, Culture and Landscape promoting Cornwall as a major tourist destination, appealing to all ages and catering for a diverse range of interests.

By involving University College Falmouth students in the filming, editing and design it will raise the profile of Cornish Universities and strengthen links between the University and the community.

Linking Camborne Youth Band, from an area of socioeconomic deprivation, with the Phoenix Stroke Appeal will raise awareness amongst younger people of the importance of health and lifestyle choices in the prevention of stroke and so play a part in ensuring the future health of the County.
