4th May 2003 - Disappointment At Blackpool

Despite a musical and creditable performance of Paganini Variations under the direction of Major Paul Murrell at the Winter Gardens - Blackpool, the Band were disappointed to be placed well down the field. Although the soloists and band in general played well, favour was not found with adjudicators Steve Sykes and Derek Broadbent. The Band now look forward to Bugle contest where the Test Piece is again Paganini Variations.

7th April 2003 - Champions, and a Double Celebration

Camborne Town Band regained the West Of England Area Title this weekend in Torquay with a moving performance of Judith Bingham's Prague - conducted by Frank Renton.

In a hard fought battle with Flowers (2nd), Yeovil (3rd), and Woodfalls (4th), Camborne came out victors after a musical performance which took no prisoners, but one in which Professional Conductor Frank Renton directed in style.  The other local bands: Mount Charles, Bodmin and St. Austell filled the next three places.

The victory made it three consecutive  qualifications for the National Finals at the Royal Albert Hall in October, with another victory in 2001 followed by second place last year, all under the baton of Frank Renton.

Also in action at the weekend were Camborne 'B' Band, who set the pace for the Senior band by coming third in the fourth section and qualifying for the National Finals in Dundee in September.  In addition to this thrill, it has transpired that following their good result last year, the band have now been promoted to the Third Section nationally. An incredible feat bearing in mind the band has only been in existence for little over a year.

Chairman, Reg Bennetts was thrilled and could hardly contain his excitement after the weekend's success.  'This must be one of the best weekends ever for Camborne Town Band Music Society', he stated, hopping from foot to foot.
