Friday 15th December - Re-Union Raises £1114 for New Bandroom
The hall at Pool Business & Enterprise College was full for the Re-Union Concert by former members of Camborne Town Band, held last month in aid of the Society's Twenty 4 Twenty appeal. Profit for the evening amounted to over £1114 to swell the funds for the new Bandroom. The event was organised from early June by former Bandsmen, Alan Toy and John Phillips and the Re-Union Band was conducted by former Musical Director, Derek Greenwood. Chairman for the evening was Robert Seymour, a past Secretary of Camborne Town Band.
The sixty-eight former members only had three rehearsals leading up to the concert and extra brass instruments were borrowed from the Penzance and Redruth Bands. Bobby Tanner, now a busy Doctor, came all the way from Wales. Others, from outside the County, who made long journeys were Kevin Goninan, Andrew Kemp, Paul Bilkey, Richard Knight and James Knight. Former Flugel player, Jack Pascoe commented: 'You may not have played for a few years, but you certainly haven't forgotten how to... I wouldn't have missed it for anything!'
Everyone in attendance was amazed by the tremendous sound produced in the following programme: Old Comrades, Zampa, You Raise Me Up, The Cossack, Great Soul, An American Trilogy, Washington Grays, Die Felsenmuhle, Nimrod, Music, Dear Lord and Father of Mankind and Slavonic Rhapsody No. 2.

Saturday 9th December - Youth Band's MA Gets Top Job at Brighouse
It was announced earlier this week that Alan Morrison, Camborne Youth Band's Musical Advisor, has been appointed Musical Director of Brighouse and Rastrisk Band and will work with the Band's new Associate Conductor, Richard Evans. Alan has been Principal Cornet with Brighouse since January 2003 and is already an experienced conductor.
Said Alan speaking of his appointment: "I am absolutely delighted to accept the position of Musical Director with the Brighouse & Rastrick Band. Although I am sad at relinquishing my position as Principal Cornet, I also feel that the opportunity to conduct such a wonderful band is too good to turn down. My thanks go to the band though for their unstinting support over the last few years of my tenure as Principal Cornet and I look forward to the challenge of the top job within the band. I feel privileged to be part of such a wonderful organisation."
Alan has been Musical Advisor of the Youth Band since 2004 and works with them several times throughout the year in preparation for contests, concerts and recordings. The Band wish Alan every success in his new role and look forward to working with him again in January in preparation for the Greater Gwent Youth Brass Band Festival at the end of the month.

Sunday 19th November - Youth Band Complete 'Three in a Row'
Yesterday the Youth Band completed the recording of their third CD, which is to be entitled 'Three in a Row' in celebration of their hatrick of wins at the National Youth Championships. Doyen Recordings Ltd, the world's premier brass recording specialists, worked with the Band from 6:00 -9:00 pm on Friday and 9:30 am - 4:30 pm on Saturday to record the eighteen tracks.
Amongst these are 10 of the pieces played by the Band in Manchester for the National Youth Championships; a rendition of the Cornish National Anthem 'Trelawny' with a massed mixed choir from local primary schools; and two solos by the world famous Euphonium Soloist David Childs, who was in Cornwall with the Buy As You View Cory Band for their Charity concert at the Carn Brea Leisure Centre last night.
The weekend was extremely successful and it was a fantastic experience for each member. However, there is a small wait before the finished product can be heard as it is set to be released in February 2007.
Friday 3rd November - Indian Banquet Raises £306 for New Bandroom

Thursday 2nd November - Band Turns Fivers into £2000
It was a golden opportunity for young musicians to turn themselves into money-making entrepreneurs. In an echo of the parable of the talents, each member of Camborne Youth Band was handed a £5 note - and asked to make it grow in value. Organisers of the fund-raising quest hoped they would return a tidy profit for the Twenty 4 Twenty new band room for Camborne Town Band Music Society. But they could scarcely have imagined the ingenuity of the youngsters in keeping up with the Dow Jones's. A final count-up revealed the band members had turned their £5 notes into a total sum of £2,000.
On Wednesday, Trevor Richards, company chief executive of Porthminster Hotel, St Ives, and a major sponsor of the youth band, was invited to pick the winners of the challenge. He was looking for the most innovative ideas and best entrepreneurial skills.
Mr Richards awarded first prize to Laureen Hodge who had set a puzzle for her family and friends - to guess the serial number of her £5 note, with the winner keeping the cash. Second prize went to Thomas Merritt who splashed out on Smarties with his £5. He then handed the sweets to members of his family and pals, asking them to fill the empty tubes with 20p pieces. BJ Abbott, who used his £5 to buy ingredients for chocolate sweets which he sold to members of the band, was ranked third. In a clever marketing ploy, BJ gave a free sweet to the first five customers in his queue.
Another young musician hit a high fund-raising note by hosting a party with an Hawaii theme while others set up a five-a-side football tournament, a coffee morning and a Body Shop event.
"All those who participated in the £5 challenge really enjoyed the initiative," said a spokesman for Camborne Youth Band. "The members of the band feel that it is extremely important to be personally involved in the fund-raising. "It is hoped that grant providers and sponsors will recognise their efforts and appreciate how important having a new bandroom is to them and future generations."
